To them, the world is made up of good guys and bad guys. Good guys are those who obey and bad guys are those who disobey. They see the world in black and white. Either someone is entirely evil or they are entirely good. Good vs. evil.Cops have a very simple view of life. True or false?
Not all, some do have that kind of mentality and I've met my fair share who those who swear up and down that the suspects are guilty.
Some see very good shades of grey, and know that a scare tactic is far better than going through all the official procedures. You can't place all officers in one barrel.Cops have a very simple view of life. True or false?
I believe they make their decision based on the facts, your actions towards them, etc. I have had no real run-ins with the police, but worked with them closely for quite some time. Most ';bad guys'; are bad. If you have priors they are going to be suspicious of you. As they should be. I have received a warning for speeding instead of ticket and at that time I guess I would be the';bad guy'; since I was breaking the law. It's all just a matter of opinion.
False. They are paranoid to the extent that everyone is a bad guy, but then simple view for simple minds.
False, cops are extremely jaded they expect everyone to guilty of something at some point. They don't trust anyone, that's why they get divorced more often.
False. Wouldn't put much weight in the opinion of an ex spouse of a cop. There may be some lingering feelings one way or the other.
False. Police officers do believe in good guys and bad guys, but we also know that most people that we deal with are just having the worst day of their life for one reason or the other. We go through so much training to deal with certain types of people; I wish we could just say it was just black and white. Furthest from it I think. We know that inherently, 10% or so of the population is the ';bad guys';. Those are the ones we deal with over and over again, but they certainly make up the smallest percentage of who we deal with every day!!!
False. That wouldn't be a very effective way of enforcing the law. There are some issues that are black and white, true. Most things have gray areas. I have met maybe a handful of people in my life that are ';entirely good';, and maybe a handful of people I would consider to be ';entirely evil';. If I catch a guy stealing copper wire from a business (it happens to be a prevalent crime in the area), I don't come to the conclusion that he is either a good or bad guy. I conclude that he has broken the law, and will go to jail for it. I don't get paid enough to pass judgment on everyone I come in contact with. I'm neither a psychologist or a sociologist, but for the most part, humanity is usually a little more complex than just good vs. evil.
In my personal experience, being married to a cop, he doesn't trust anyone to be ';good'; until they prove it. He is constantly scanning the crowd making sure someone doesn't get the drop on him!
Pat we're still married you clown! I can't help that he is the way he is. I wasn't speaking for all cops jsut my husband whom I love and am very proud of!
