As an Economist, the true meaning of life is not just happiness, it is maximizing your overall utilities(satisfaction). Everyone is different so satisfaction can be sadness or pain. Procreating is innate but some get too much negative utilities for reproduction so they don't do it.

If the meaning of life is to be happy, then we would try to be happy all the time. So, now imagine a life where everyone is happy including you everytime, everyday no matter what happens. Could humans function a day like that, i dont think so. it will be total chaos and we might experience a new sentiment for happiness, hatred. When we say meaning are we talking about the reason to live or the goal of life, because the word meaning might seem confusing. If we mean the aim of life then we might be right because it possible to be happy at times, so if you ask me, I'd say the aim of life is to be happy SOMETIMES and keep it that way, so that you can have longterm unconditional happiness.

I don't know if it has any particular meaning except perhaps to your friends and family. We are born, we live and we die. Where is the meaning in that? What does it mean when you hear someone you never knew or heard of died. Nothing I would suspect, therefore his/her life had no meaning as far as you were concerned. It did however have meaning for those who knew that person. So unless you are aware of someones existence, it can mean nothing to you.
